Tribute to the Italian Masters of Mid-Century Lighting Design T he Italians have always been gifted in de- sign, and this continues. Of special inter- est to collectors, connoisseurs and dec- orators is the work of various Italian lighting designers in the mid-20th century and across the 80’s and 90’s. We reached out to our circle of knowledgeable dealers in Italy to compile this initial photo survey – a rolling feature in our publication. These pieces are comparatively rare and beyond aesthetic and decorative as well as functional value, hold the advantage of appreci- ating in value. Like fine antique Persian carpets

and other furnishings, if well chosen, these acquisitions gain in value over time with their pedigrees. One of the attributes of most of these pieces is their ability to be integrated into a variety of individual room interiors, de- pending of course on taste and overall con- ception of a single room design objective. Surely the majority would work beautiful- ly within an otherwise spare or minimalist environment, favoured by some today. Yet as significant collectibles and objets d’art in themselves we have seen, through the work of our interior design partners and contributors, the integration of such into a variety of décor schemes.
