“ QUOTES “Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.” – Scott Adams “Those who do not want to imitate anything, produce nothing.” – Salvador Dali “The visionary starts with a clean sheet of paper, and re-imagines the world.” – Malcolm Gladwell M uch of the creative process exists in the act of beginning – breaking down any resistance that we might feel to the start of something new and throwing ourselves head first into the creation. The greats tell us that creativity is the culmination of a few key ingredients: a willingness to begin (and begin again, as needed), a source of inspiration, and a selective eye. Then again, by its very nature, arts and culture is nothing if not subjective, so who is to draw the line that sets “true art” apart from everything else? Perhaps true innovation is about finding the beauty in every new piece of art that comes to light.
The tango, like jazz, was a great innovation. Both born in the slums, scored by the middle and upper classes, and in due course, adopted and loved globally – and they continue to evolve and enchant.
