MAJOR GENERAL MICHAEL JEFFERY – (dec.) The late, Major General the Hon- ourable Michael Jeffery AC, AO (Mil), CVO, MC (Retd) was Govern- or-General of Australia from 2003 to 2008 and is Australia’s first Ad- vocate for Soil Health – a position quickly emulated by other coun- tries. His role is to raise public awareness of the critical role soil plays in underpinning sustainable productivity and to advise the government on soil science. Prior to this, he had a distin- guished military career, seeing action in Malaya, Borneo and Vietnam, where he was awarded the Military Cross and South Viet- namese Cross of Gallantry. cial Air Service Regiment and be- came Deputy Chief of the General Staff in 1990 before retiring from the army in 1993. He was the first Australian soldier to be appointed Governor-General, after having served for seven years as Gov- ernor of Western Australia. LORRAINE GORDON Lorraine is the Founder and Director of the National Re- generative Agriculture Alliance and Director of Strategic Pro- jects at Southern Cross Univer- sity. She was the instigator and co-designer of the Bachelor of Science in Regenerative Agri- culture – the only degree of its kind in the world and now the largest agricultural degree in
PATRON Andrew Weidemann is Chair- man of Grain Producers Australia, an association repre- senting Australia’s broadacre, grain, pulse and oilseed pro- ducers. He has also served as Group Deputy President of VFF Grains, Deputy Chairman of the Birchip Cropping Group and Deputy President of the Grains Council of Australia. Holding an Advanced Diploma in Agricul- ture, Mr Weidemann is passion- ate about sustainability and applies the latest technology to his own mixed grain farm in Vic- toria, which is one of only three in the country that supplies barley for Crown Lager brewery.
